Withdrew in Anguish (April 2011)
Scripture: Matthew 26:36-46 / Mark 14:32-42 / Luke 22:40-46 20” x 30” NOT AVAILABLE Alone, in the garden He prayed. Prayed that what was to pass – His sacrifice – could be accomplished in some other way. But He knew the will of the His Father and He knew the only payment for sin was death – His death. So, He withdrew to pray – to talk with the Father and gain strength to endure what lie ahead. His disciples could not comfort Him the way He needed, only His Father – Only God the true Comforter. The picture of Him in so much anguish His sweat was blood attests to the struggle of this moment. I aim to remember this moment in this work with the running look of the paint and design. To remember the anguish and obedience He showed for me. And then I use it to remind me: When exhausted by sorrow – pray so as not to fall in to temptation! |
