Bronzes
"...casting pieces in bronze has created an interesting reflection of my current desire and search for solitude."
Working in bronze was first encouraged by artist Vern Friesen and explored by asking the question: "Can bronze relief sculptures be combined with mosaic work?" When Ann received her first batch of bronze trees back from the foundry, she discovered that the material of bronze didn't share the stage well with mosaic. "Bronze is like a diva soloist. It doesn't share well with other singers. It wants to be on it's own." Ann has discovered, however, that the natural wood found on her childhood home place, as well as old barn wood, pair well with the bronze and create a sense of quietness, strength, and solitude. Her original question has become one path of her work while this has become another. Click on the image to the left to see the work. |
