Together (2015 Illuminating Lincoln Project to benefit Lighthouse )
Project Location: Seacrest Park, 70th and A Streets, Lincoln, NE
Current Location:
Full of inspiration for the project and understanding a little better what Lighthouse does for our community, I wanted to try and depict the statement, “it takes a village to raise a child.” Having a child of my own about ready to enter middle school, I see the importance of strong, influential people in the lives of pre-teens and teens. Without good examples and challenges to rise to a higher standard, some adolescents drop into bad experiences and are influenced negatively. I’ve found it is going to take people from all walks of life, in our community, to inspire and help raise the children of this generation.
I plan to use the symbol of a figure in gold repeated several times, to represent unity. When we link arms we can change the world – but first we must recognize we must put our plan aside for a greater purpose. Forming the grid or framework for laying down color are large circles. Each of these circles are painted in a different color to represent uniqueness. No one person is alike and we all bring special talents and abilities to the table that are needed to make a difference together as a team. It reminds us that we all have a role to play if we want to bring light to a world full of chaos and hopelessness. And finally, the spaces where the circles intersect are painted red to reflect the coming together for the common good. When we bring our unique selves and unite for the common good of seeing lives changed there is power. Anything is possible! This bulb will be painted with acrylic paint and will be finished with several coats of clear coat.
I hope that as viewers experience Together they will examine their own lives and take the steps necessary to be unified for a greater purpose such as the work of Lighthouse and giving kids a brighter future.
