The Breakthrough; March - May 2021 **Free Art Experience May 15, 2021 from 1-5 pm**
Location: Gateway Mall, 6100 O Street, Lincoln, NE (old Teavanna store front across from Zales & Dick's Sporting Goods)
Medium: Plaster and human interaction
We don’t want to be defined by our mistakes, our short comings, or other’s judgements, but often we allow them to direct who we are. What if one word, one divinely given word, could change that? What if one word could help us see, challenge us to understand and make a way to believe we are more than the lies? Could we wrestle with the word, what it means and choose to believe we are more? We are incredible?
A project patterned after a similar project carried out at LBC Youth Camp in 2019. "The Breakthrough" takes this camp experience into the public and challenges the lies we tell ourselves and the negative things others say about us to our faces. Once participants write these lies and words on their figure, they are asked to break it and remove the word found within while leaving the broken pieces in a mapped out space on the floor. Leaving the negativity and lies behind they are now asked to believe that word is meant specifically for them and are invited to wrestle with what that means for their lives.
The project with be carried out on May 15, 2021 from 1-5 pm in the storefront (formerly Teavanna) across from Zales and Dick's Sporting Goods at Gateway Mall in Lincoln, Nebraska.
