Scripture:  John 8:31-41

 Sin (anything that expresses our desire to be our own god) is like the box in the painting – it puts us in bondage.  It is a trap that keeps us from fully knowing the depth of the love of God.  However, Jesus states in vs. 32 that if we know the truth – it will set us free.  The lid of the box will be opened and we will be free to live – free to fail – free to try – free to love.  So what is that truth?  Jesus died for you and for me, arose as the victor over sin and death, and sits at the Father’s right hand in the heavenlies.  The truth is that He did this for you and for me and offers His salvation free of charge – you don’t need to do anything and no money can purchase it, it is a gift!  A free gift.  He offers you grace if you just believe He loved you so much to take your place and die for you.  That’s how He sets you and I free.
