January Sunrise; January/February 2020
Location: Gateway Mall, 6100 O Street, Lincoln, NE (entry to old Sears store)
Medium: Hand-painted papers and acrylic paint
A quick meeting with the General Manager of Gateway led to this mural inspired by the sunrises experienced on morning walks in January. After Sears left Gateway Mall the building it resided in was purchased and the new owner removed the doorway in this temporary wall. In doing so, a mural that was previously in this place was destroyed and left the space needing a makeover. I was called in and given the reigns to do whatever I thought would work in the space and cover the patched drywall and the texture of the previous painting.
Personally hand-painted sheets of paper where ripped up and placed one by one on the wall creating a collage over the surface. When everything was dry a silhouette of a tree was painted, free-handed on top of the collage.
The project opened the door for the public to ask questions about the process and talk with me about creating artwork.
