The Teachers of the Law were often trying to trip Jesus up or accuse Him of blasphemy, which is the case in this passage.  Jesus says to look at
the fruit a “good tree bears good fruit and a bad tree will bear bad fruit.”  This is what inspired the
tree image in this painting.  I then wanted to show the good of Jesus by placing His qualities on the branches of the tree as if they were fruit.  The rich colors show life and royalty.
