You Are Not Alone (for April 2015 First Friday Art Walk
Location: The Pilgrimer, 228 N. 12th Street, Lincoln, NE
A friend and I were discussing various topics one morning and he asked for some ideas for the First Friday Art Walk coming in just 2 weeks. I mentioned painting live art and the idea of a mural came up. As we continued to talk I shared an idea I'd been working on for a painting at home. For several months I had been writing down my fears on small pieces of canvas which were going to be glued to a canvas and then I planned to mark out and paint "Do not fear over the pieces. Ben loved the idea so I agreed to paint the mural for first Friday and involve those who came to the Pilgrimer in the process. It was a learning experience in letting go of control of the work in progress and it was fun to watch people take part in the project and as I went back to complete the piece, I loved hearing people talk about their involvement and the meaning behind the piece. During the process the wording was changed from the original "Do Not Fear" to "You Are Not Alone." In this way we are reminded that no matter what we fear or what circumstances we find ourselves, we are never alone.
The words "You are Not Alone" make up the grid in which the paint is applied.
