Psalm 112 (February 2008)
21" x 14" - canvas banner I spent much of the series trying out new techniques in my painting styles, especially as it relates to transparency. In other works of the series, I hid words written in oil pastel under the top layer of paint or within the grid, but none seemed to “jump” off the banner like the word trustworthy found in Psalm 112. Accompanying this word is the image of an unending loop to represent God’s enduring qualities. I discovered through this process that if a dark under painting was applied first and silver oil pastel over, it helped to make the drawing more visible once the top layer of paint was added. In this particular piece I used very watered down colors to increase the visibility of the drawing and enhance its importance for I want viewers to understand that in all things He is trustworthy. |
