Ann Williams
Ann Williams I am a Nebraska native who has been immersed in the art world for as long as I can remember due to my father also being an artist. I knew from a young age I enjoyed nature and was creative. Following these loves through high school, I went on to the University of Nebraska where I graduated with a degree in Fine Arts. I continued to involve myself in art related activities while becoming a wife and mother and am now working fulltime on my art. When not working on art I’m outside playing with my kids, taking photos, and participating in the visual arts team at the Lincoln Berean Church. Art is the purpose for which I have been created and I hope that I can bring my King glory through this form of worship.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
Creation, God’s Word, and the way things sound and move are the inspiration for my work and the marks I choose to make. Spaces created by overlapping branches, the jumps of a child, the concentric circles of breeze-tossed wind chimes or a pebble dropped in a pond all bring me joy and ideas for paintings and drawings. I try to portray emotion in each of my abstract paintings by using intense colors and rich black lines. Acrylic, pastel, charcoal, and watercolor are my media of choice. Each work begins with a loose idea and a set of intuitively made marks. I then choose the colors for the work and paint the base color, along with a tint and shade of each. I finish the pieces with charcoal, spray paint, and other random paint splatters.

Back to Work!!
2/5/2010
In a statement: "It is so good to be back to work." Back in September we welcomed our third son into the family and needless to say, that has kept me quite busy over the past 4 months. He is a joy! I am, however, glad to be back to work on art on a more regular basis. Right before he was born I prepped about 6 canvases for painting so that I could do a little work here and there. That such helped get through this slow time. I taught Creative Connections at LBC again this fall and during that time created two collage pieces. So I guess I have done some work, but it was time to be back to the Gospel Series and other things.

LBC again has a 200-level exhibit in the works -- this year entitled "Renewal". I've been so excited to see God raise up new artistic talent to take part in this exhibition -- 5 new artists to be exact. The opening for this show is March 12, 2010. I again took part in creating pieces for this project. I'm in the process of finishing up a piece entitled "Renovation" which required me to redo a dollhouse I had built with my dad when I was a 5th or 6th grader. I've incorporated words into the decor which expresses some of the things God continually works on in my life. Each room is a different role in my life from being a wife and mother to being an artist. You can see some of the photos on this site under "RENOVATION." The second project for this exhibit is a 4 foot tall fountain with 3 sides which express varying stages of allowing God to renew me -- letting His life flow into me to fill me up in order to serve others and share His saving grace. I had this fabricated for me and will just do the finishing touches. It has been fun to involve others in this process. Hopefully I'll get photos of this posted soon.

As for the GOSPEL Series, I've been really working hard on it again. I just posted 9 more which were finished in the fall and am currently painting on 4 more.

So I guess I'm busy with all this and toting kiddos back and forth to and from school and preschool as well as staying active in the visual arts ministry at church. After a "slow" year where much of the team was bombarded with LIFE we are excited to be getting things going again on a more regular basis. God is moving and I'm excited to see where He will take us. We are planning at least one if not two live art projects during the services this summer. I am also teaching an oil painting class once a month and am excited to see how each person is working hard.

God is good and I know I've needed the busyness to get through this cold, dreary winter. Hey artists can be a bit moody anyway and no sunshine doesn't help! But like I said God is good and I am surviving because of communication with Him through painting and creating. Take care all!
